Welcome to Episode 2 of my FIFA 19 Inter Milan Career Mode series! Last month, we kicked off the season with two straight wins in Serie A against Sassuolo and Torino.
This month, we’ve got five matches in Serie A and the first match of the Champions League group stage.
Let’s see how we got on in Episode 2 of this FIFA 19 Inter Milan Career Mode series.
September 2018
Bologna (Serie A)
Our first game in September is a visit to Bologna. I name an unchanged lineup from our last game.
Ivan Perisic gives us the lead in the 8th minute with a glorious chip over the keeper, and Mauro Icardi makes it 2-0 a few minutes later. Radja Nainggolan makes it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, and Icardi scores two more in the second half to complete his hattrick. An utterly dominant 5-0 win to start the month.
With 9 points, we share top spot with rivals Milan and a surprising Chievo team. Our next opponents, Parma, sit in 4th spot.
Parma (Serie A)
With Parma visiting the San Siro next, I make three changes to the team. Danilo D’Ambrosio, Keita Balde, and Stefan De Vrij come into the side.
Mauro Icardi gives us the lead in the 11th minute, keeping up his great form. However, Roberto Inglese equalises against the run of play just before half-time. Things go from bad to worse as D’Ambrosio is sent off for a bad tackle on Inglese in first half injury time. Things get even worse in the second half as Joao Mario is also sent off, and Parma take advantage of their numerical advantage to take the lead through Alberto Grassi. Somehow, we manage to equalise through Kwadwo Asamoah and Ivan Perisic then scores an improbable winner with 10 minutes remaining.
The miraculous win keeps up our 100% start to the season, and there’s even better news as Milan only pick up a draw in their game.
Tottenham Hotspur (Champions League)
It’s finally time for Champions League action as we kick off the group stage against Tottenham Hotspur. Matteo Politano, Sime Vrsaljko, and Miranda all return to the starting lineup.Â
We make a dream start as Politano scores from a tight angle to give us the lead, but Spurs quickly turn things around with goals from Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane just before halftime. In the second half, Borja Valero equalises with the easiest goal of his life and Mauro Icardi seals another comeback win with a header in the 81st minute.
A crucial win to start the group stage, with matches against Barcelona and PSV still to come.
Sampdoria (Serie A)
Next up, we travel to Sampdoria in Serie A. Only one change to the lineup, as Valero replaces Joao Mario who had a poor game against Spurs.
Icardi (who else) gives us the lead in the 9th minute, before Valero scores his 2nd goal in as many games to make it 2-0. However, Jakub Jankto pulls one back for Sampdoria to make it 2-1 at halftime. Politano makes it 3-1 with 15 minutes to go to end Samp’s resistance in a fairly close game.
The win maintains our 2 point lead over Milan and Chievo. Champions Juventus, meanwhile, are nowhere to be seen in the top 8.
Fiorentina (Serie A)
Our next game is back at home in the San Siro as Fiorentina roll into town. Keita Balde replaces Politano while Dalbert and De Vrij start at the back in place of Asamoah and Miranda.
Balde makes the most of his opportunity with the opening goal in the 2nd minute, but Fiorentina equalise through German Pezzella five minutes later. Icardi keeps up his scoring streak with a header to give us the lead heading into the break. In the second half, Fiorentina are unable to get another equaliser and Joao Mario settles it with a fine long range strike in the 90th minute.
The result means we extend our lead to 5 points, as Milan and Chievo both lose their matches.
Cagliari (Serie A)
Our final game of the month is another home game, this time against Cagliari. Matias Vecino replaces Marcelo Brozovic in midfield, while Andrea Ranocchia comes in for the rested Milan Skriniar.
A tougher than expected game is ultimately settled by a wonder strike from Radja Nainggolan in the 9th minute. But for a fine performance from Rafael in the Cagliari goal, we would have scored more goals.
A win is still a win, and we go into October with a 5 point lead over Chievo. Sampdoria are a point behind them, while Milan are now 8 points behind us. An out of sorts Juventus are in 7th place on 11 points.
So that brings us to the end of September 2018. A perfect month as we keep up our 100% record in the league, and start our Champions League campaign with a win.
