Welcome to my FIFA 19 Borussia Dortmund Career Mode series! In this series, I’ll be documenting my progress through the 2018/19 season as I attempt to do better than Lucien Favre.

I play FIFA 19 on World Class difficulty using default sliders and with matches set to 6-minute halves. I also like as much realism as possible, so I’ve disabled transfers at the start of the first season – meaning I have to use the same players that the club started the season with.

Another thing I like to do in FIFA is something I call the ‘facist challenge’, which sounds like a despicable combination of fascism and racism. It actually just means I hate FIFA’s generic player faces. So over the course of the series I will aim to sell any players with generic faces and replace them with players with real faces.

Right then, let’s get straight into this FIFA 19 Borussia Dortmund career, shall we?

August 2018

RB Leipzig (Bundesliga)

We open the season at home to RB Leipzig. The line-up is a strong one, with new signings Axel Witsel and Thomas Delaney starting in midfield. Christian Pulisic is preferred to Jadon Sancho on the right wing, while Shinji Kagawa starts ahead of Mario Gotze in the attacking midfield position.

An early goal from skipper Marco Reus gives us the lead before Christian Pulisic adds a second goal just before half-time. From that point, we see the game out comfortably to record a solid opening day win against tough opponents.

We are one of six teams to claim all three points on the opening matchday, but our 2-0 win means we top the table on goal difference.

Hannover 96 (Bundesliga)

Next up, it’s a visit to Hannover as we look to make it two wins from two. I go with the same lineup that beat Leipzig in the last game.

New signing Axel Witsel opens the scoring in the 17th minute to give us the lead, before fellow new boy Paco Alcacer volleys in to make it 2-0 before half-time. Much like the previous match, we hold on comfortably to make it a perfect start to the season.

Six points, four goals, and none conceded has us top of the league before the rest of the teams are in action on Matchday 2.

So that brings an end to August 2018. Two wins from two in the league, with more games to come in September – including the start of our Champions League campaign.
